California Hospital Fails to Afford Reasonable Accommodation After Brain Death

Nebane Abienwi, 37, a father of six who fled his embattled country this summer, died in October, after suffering a "medical emergency" while being detained at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Otay Mesa Detention Center facility in San Diego.

This "fast" withdrawal seems inconsistent with California law, which requires that hospitals continue cardiopulmonary support for a "reasonably brief period" which the 2008 statute defined as "an amount of time afforded to gather family or next of kin at the patient's bedside."...
